I spent a few days visiting the memorials, US Capitol, and museums in Washington, DC with my family a few weeks ago. Of all of the places we visited, the most compelling to me is always the National Archives. It was there that I was reminded of these potent words:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
A very important and oft overlooked aspect of the faith of our forefathers is revealed here: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created.” A guiding and persistent truth to our forefathers was that all men are created by their Creator, Jehovah God. This truth and the resulting tenets of our faith guided them in their pursuit of freedom and personal liberty for a new nation. Of course, this was before the world was enlightened that we came from apes, and before that, some form of amphibians that no longer exist … and before that, an accident in space.
Our forefathers bowed their knees pleading the blessing and guidance of the Holy One, Jehovah God the Father, His Son, Yeshuah Messiah Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Of course, that we before we were enlightened that there must be a chasm – a man-made separation – between God and the affairs of men in this nation. That way, we can follow the plight of all other nations who have rejected God and watch our influence and moral fiber crumble at our feet, as we are seeing now.
The first act of the presidency of George Washington on his inauguration day April 30, 1789 was to worship (along with members of the US Congress) at St. Paul’s Chapel, where they bowed on their knees seeking the favor and direction of God and His one and only Son Jesus Christ. Of course, that we before we were enlightened in an age of relativism of the equality of gods of so many names and the tolerance of all creeds and beliefs . . . except that which still holds these Truths to be self-evident!
Is there still a remnant? A remnant that believes that we are created in the image of God to bring glory to His name? A remnant that believes that we are not the result of an accident in space but of a deliberate, intricate and loving plan of God that screams from heaven, “Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you?” (Jeremiah 1). Is there still a remnant who knows that we must acknowledge God and bow to His Lordship daily for our survival and prospering as a people? A remnant who believes that our Forefathers did the same, as our history, though attempted to be hidden by elements of our society, still bears witness?
This belief may be foolishness to a growing segment of our population, but “God deliberately choose the things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important” (1 Corinthians 1:27-28 NLT).
Our nation’s founders were considered rabble revolutionaries fighting a misled cause with peasant, ill-trained and poorly supplied troops that would end in certain defeat. Instead, through their vision, tenacity, faith, and yearning for liberty, they changed the world.
The same can still be true of us who believe in the authenticity of God’s Word and live according to its truths.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him” (2 Corinthians 2:9 NLT).
Amen and amen. God bless from Tallahassee
