We need revival, but what will genuine revival look like when it comes?
There will be brokenness over the gravity of sin and the gravity of grace. (Psalm 51:16-17)
There will be sacrificial worship. (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 2:20)
There will be an abandonment of personal agenda and personal kingdom building. (Haggai 1; Matthew 6:33)
Prophets will call to covenant relationship – not sugar-coated religion.
There will be a revival of serving as a lifestyle, not a temporal feel-good event. (Philippians 2:1-5)
There will be Great Commission action – getting out of ourselves, abandoning lifestyles that prioritize pleasure, setting aside self-edification and self-preservation … and building the kingdom of God. In other words, we will be consumed by the heart of God, for real revival does not want emotion and the manifestation of spiritual gifts for personal exaltation; True revival wants the name of Jesus to be known among the nations!
God has set the atmosphere in our nation for us to cry out to Him like the children of God in Egypt cried out to Him in their desperation, knowing that only God can help us now!
If we want revival, we must create the atmosphere for revival:
Repentance that produces humility, holiness, purity of heart, brokenness, and gratitude for His grace. This is the atmosphere God is looking for to manifest His presence! (1 Peter 5:5-6; 1 Peter 1:14-16)
Living sacrifices. (Romans 12:1)
The humbling of ourselves and complete dependence on His grace and strength. (1 Corinthians 1:26-29; 2 Corinthians 4:7; Philippians 3:3-14)
Loving and holding to the Truth in an age of relativism and compromise that is now a cancer IN the church! (John 8:32)
Unity in the body of faith. (John 17:21)
Hosea 10:12 “Sow with a view to righteousness; Reap in accordance with kindness. Break up the fallow ground, until He comes to rain righteousness upon you.”
New Living Translation: “ … Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that He may come and shower righteousness upon you.”
A.Z. Tozer’s prayer:
“O God, be exalted over my possessions. Be exalted over my friendships. Be exalted over my reputation. Make me ambitious to please You even if as a result I must sink into obscurity and my name be forgotten. Rise, O Lord, into Your proper place of honor, above my ambitions, above my likes and dislikes, above my family, my health and even life itself. Let me decrease that You may increase.”
