Faith, Hope and Love

1 Corinthians 13:13  “These three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.”

Faith looks backward. We remember the ways God has come through for His people and for us, and our belief is strengthened that He will come through for us again.

Love is exercised in the present moment; we love and receive love in the “now.”

Hope is unique: Hope looks forward, anticipating the good that is coming. Hope reaches into the future to take hold of something we do not yet have, may not yet even see. Hope seizes the future that is not yet; it is the confident expectation of goodness coming to us.

All three of these work together: Faith from what God has done yesterday, love in the present, and hope for the future give us a well-rounded and solid foundation to walk through anything, to be secure in Christ, to accomplish God’s purposes in our lives.

“These three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.”

The greatest = In the Greek, this means the most important, highest and mightiest of these.

Why is love the greatest? Because of the three, we feel it’s greatest (mightiest and highest) affect in the here and now.

And remember, Jesus Christ, the source of our faith, love and hope, is the same yesterday, today and forever!
